No matter what you feel,

don't look back (CO) 11`

Nadine Holguin

TISTA, an old man who is devoted to the souls in purgatory, tries to convince his only son, EFRAÍN, to start working as an animero, because he is worried that when he dies, the souls will be left without someone to take them around the village to rest from their graves, and, through prayers, obtain relief. For this reason, he persuades his son to devoutly assume this responsibility and to meet with the souls every second of November for the rest of his life. Ephraim is reluctant to believe in walking spirits and considers it a worthless craft, based on an increasingly forgotten tradition. However, 'curiosity killed the cat'. Because of Efraín's deep affection for his father and after a long insistence, he arrives at his midnight appointment/induction to be initiated as an 'Animero', but not knowing the true meaning of his father's profession, he finds himself involved between the prayers and the wind blow in the 'the sound of death', a dance which the living dread. Efraín decides to break the most important of the conditions imposed by Tista to exercise his profession: to believe and not to look back. A decision that brings him fatal consequences as he is forced to be among the movement of the souls in pain.
