SEARA PROJECT
SYNOPSIS

"Seara talks about the rescue of traditions, of origins, of the place of departure, of the human being, of the original land - original in the sense of earth/ground - and these alterations. Seara comes to dialogue with the moment of that origin and today. What is happening right now? (...) The way we are treating the planet, climate change. That's coming up urgently and I think it asked us to talk about that subject."
"Seara" is a dialogue between tradition and the contemporary, between the human landscape and memory, life and its cycles, a place of cultivation where everything seems out of place, the seasons, the weather, the harvests, the emotions and the confusion of the state of society. The return to places that invoke sensations and meanings of origin, or new beginnings.
In a duet format between dance and music, this creation focuses its research on both popular tradition, especially the traditional dances from Portugal or the world, the rhythms of work and the transformations of the landscape of the place. The Saias fashion, a dance danced mainly by the people of the Alto Alentejo, was the inspiration for the construction of the movement and choreography and the Seara, a field of cereal cultivation, for all the visual, sound and poetic construction of the show.
From the working rhythm to the profane rites, the wind carries the seed that sprouts from the earth, the Mother of us all.

Project of creation and Research in dance
music and video art

"Seara" is a project of creation and research of interdisciplinary practices in the area of dance, music and video, which was the artistic proposal of Clara Marchana and Luís Fernandes winner of the scholarship "Creations to Dance in 2022", promoted by PédeXumbo and of the artistic research residency program "Atopémonos Bailando, 2023" in Lugo City, Spain.

It is a project that is open to the realization of artistic residencies to revisit choreography and enable the integration, in each performance, of a member or groups of the local community, which may be a choral group, a folkloric racho, an author song, a professional or amateur, in a
section of the show.

The purpose of understanding the rhythms of work, the climatic changes that affect us and the way they modify our way of relating to Mother Earth, ends up being the centre of research and creation of this piece.

The idea of seasons out of time, out of place, of a climatic arrhythmia and a disconnection with the natural bio-fila that Human Beings have with nature and life in general, assume the lines of artistic investigation of this project, which in general terms intends to make each individual and society aware, through body art, sound and moving images, of the need for a greater and better quality in the relationship we establish with our inner self and the world around us.
